Description
One of the most floriferous and captivating of the evergreen azaleas, ‘Blaauw’s Pink’ is a Karume Hybrid Azalea that produces a massive explosion of soft salmon-pink hose in hose flowers in spring that nearly cover the attractive dark green foliage. Each flower has a splash of dark pink freckles on the upper petal. The flowers are small (1-1.5″), but what they lack in size they make up for in sheer number. One of those spectacular evergreen flowering shrubs that will always have you looking forward to spring to see it in bloom.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Blaauw’s Pink Azalea is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or as a low hedge in partially shaded landscape borders, woodland gardens, and home foundation plantings. Budded and blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements. A fine addition to azalea gardens, pink theme gardens, Asian theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3 feet apart for solid hedges; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Evergreen Azaleas are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Evening sun is fine. Azaleas do not like wet feet so avoid planting them in sites where the soil stays constantly soggy or wet. Moderate drought tolerance when established.
